Postpartum Weight-loss

Shedding pounds off after having a baby, for some is night and day, but for many women the weight stays and feels like it never goes away.

There are underlying things to look into for those who struggle to lose their postpartum weight:

  • Postpartum anxiety and depression

  • Hormone imbalance: sex hormones and stress hormones

  • Nutrient deficiency

  • Yeast overgrowth or candida

  • Environmental toxin overload like mold

  • Parasites

If you’re breastfeeding, you’re really feeding for two at this time. It’s crucial for you to have enough food to provide nutrients to yourself and baby. Breastfeeding is an exercise in itself and can burn up to 500 calories per session.

Things you can incorporate now to lose weight:

  • Drink filtered water (I prefer reverse osmosis filtered water). Half your body weight in ounces. If you’re 200lbs, minimum to drink is 100 ounces.

  • Take baby on a walk outside for 30mins daily. Sunlight, fresh air and movement are all great forms of medicine.

  • Small workout session 10mins can do wonders or even few movements every few hours such as: 10 squats, 10 push ups, 10-60sec planks, 10 high knees. They add up in the day and can get to you ultimate goal.

  • Focus on whole single ingredient foods, less processed foods as much as possible.

  • While you’re breastfeeding, take time to meditate, to help stress hormones. I know it’s easy to jump on your phone and scroll or shop. Take 5 minutes to listen to your breathing or listen to a meditation to support healthy stress hormones.

  • Sleep when you can. Newborns are scared to be out in this world and some can have a terrible time adjusting. That can look like 30-45min sleep increments. Definitely ask for help, get your partner involved, mom, best friend, or if those aren’t options consider a doula or night nanny. There are also some great mom groups to join that could serve as a village during this time.
